1. Introduction

Hi there, friends! 👋 👋 👋

Hi there

But hey, there is good news too! The James Webb Space Telescope launch was successful! Should everything go according to plan…

Scientists Hold Their Breath As James Webb Space Telescope Deploys With High Hopes

The hope is James Webb will provide to us the first light from the Big Bang and expand our understanding of how our Universe came to be. That said, a lot of stuff has to absolutely go 100% correct here.

How James Webb’s Deployments MUST Work

No pressure, right? 😐 👀

2. Blog Work

In the meantime, you’ve probably noticed that my blog has been going underneath a LOT of changes. As a part of 2022 going forward, I’m planning on doing a lot more with this blog than I have in the past. I’ve also been making some changes to it.

  • I’ve moved from AWS Amplify hosting over to GitHub Pages. Mostly this is due to the fact that deploying a Hugo site with AsciiDoc and Asciidoctor is more painful than I had anticipated. Those that know me knows I’m a huge fan of Asciidoc and it’s capability[1] over Markdown. So, in order to support (as well as cut my publishing time down), I decided the quickest way for me to get going with minimal fuss is to go with GitHub Pages.

I would like to acknowledge Bric3’s blog repo as providing me with the template and the work done prior to getting this blog going with Asciidoc.
  • The site theme. It’s still very much a work in progress as far as getting it to look as how I would like for it to. I am not a web person so learning how to modify the CSS files to get it to look exactly how I want it to look has been a bit of a challenge. Interesting to learn, but challenging none the less.

  • The site and code isn’t 100% perfect but it’s getting there. For now, I’d recommend viewing in dark mode as that is where I’ve spent most of my work so far. As the year goes and I have time to devote I’ll keep making the changes necessary to improve on the theme, Asciidoc support, etc.

  • Given that my day-to-day work at Riot Games is Kubernetes and AWS security, I plan on devoting time to writing about my experiences as best as possible.

  • I also plan on trying to devote more time to talk about what goes on in the open source community as well as the information security communities. Things like Chainguard, Falco, eBPF, Open Policy Agent, Canary Tokens, and Cloud Custodian are tools and open source projects we at Riot have been looking into over the last year and will continue to investigate into 2022 to see how best we can leverage them in our environments.

  • Finally, maybe talk about some offensive security within AWS and cloud environments as a whole… 🤔

So stick around! Hopefully you’ll find what I post entertaining and informative. If not, at least the memes and shitposting will be spicy…
